  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A question

from what age can female buns get pregnant? i have a nuetered male but he only had the op on friday. i have just got a 9 - 10 week old female and was wondering if she should be kept seperate from the male for a few weeks or whether she will be able to go straight in with him if they get on. At the moment they are together with me in the living room

He will be fertile for many weeks post-op - I would err on the side of caution and keep them apart for up to 6 wks but certainly for 2 weeks minimum. She is a bit young to get pregnant but only just - I would be careful and keep them apart for now definitely. You can put their cages/pens side by side if you wish so they can get to know one another slowly through the wire but I would not put them together or even exercise them together until all risks of pregnancy have passed.

Also once his hormones have settled he should be more accomodating so hopefully they'll also be easier to bond.
