  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

inside or outside?

For those of you still up tonight..

YEsterday Ralph had his neuter and it went as well as possible. We kept him inside last night and most of today and he's gone back outside in the hutch, in the shed tonight. It has been more than 24 hours since his neuter. It's rather cold out, and Ralph is sitting all puffed up. He is cold to touch but is obviously not in shock or anything. He's eating, drinking and pooing normally. I'm so tempted to bring him in again tonight, but then as he's got to be outdoor bunny for now, he can't keep having these changes of temperature! Will he be okay in this cold temperature, so soon after his neuter?

Personally I would bring him inside - a few days, recovering in the warmth and safety of inside, instead of out in the cold, feeling vulnerable to any potential predators. But that's only my opinion.

It's a little late now, but I would have brought him in for the night. :) He should be fine to go outside today if he's eating/drinking well etc - Alfie was much happier back outside than indoors cooped up. He will need to adjust to the difference in temperature though and the temp drops quite sharply at night, so evening isn't a good time to go otuside. The best time to pop him outside is mid-morning, when it's quite warm and then he will adjust to the change in temp throughout the day and into the evening.
