Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EC

Hi,

Poor little Barley has been under the weather...

I noticed that he was having problems with one of his front paw/legs... it seemed as though he couldn't co-ordinate it, I also noticed that there is some muscle tone loss to it (atlough this would be a sympton of him not using it properly). Apart from being rather lathargic he seems fine in himself, eating well and hopping around when it's food time...

Anyhow he went to the vets on Saturday and she said it could be EC (he's not in any pain, and it feels normal), but I've read about EC and all it mentions is hind leg paralysis and not front? Him (and Floss as a precaution), is being treated with Pancur, but I'm worried that it might not be the right diagnosis as the problem is with his front leg and not hind as so often indicate...

Our Martha is currently recovering from EC and her front legs as well as her back legs were badly affected.

A 28 day course of Panacur and Metacam has worked wonders though and she now has her movement back (although she is still a bit wobbly).

Many people recommend using Metacam in addition to Panacur. It is the inflammation caused by EC that causes most of the damage. Metacam works as an anti-inflammatory. It certainly made a difference in Martha's case.

I hope Barley recovers well!
