Cleaning lino

Hi I am looking for as many suggestions as possible

Lily has been suffering really badly with incontinence which has left the bedroom floor a bit messy

I spot clean it every day and deep clean it every week, I was using a steam cleaner but the thing has given up on me :shock:

I am now using a mop and very hot water but what detergent to people use that is bunny safe on their lino/shed/cage floors?

I have Johnson's cage cleaner but that doesn't work in a bucket for mopping really I used a mild carpet shampoo which does state that it is pet safe, do any of you have tips

I use half vinegar/half water solutions, and they work really well for me. Also, safe for the bunnies.

next question where do you get it from?

I have to say I had no idea how expensive it is. We slosh it around at work. A little goes a long way though. I found this on google but other places may be cheaper so I would shop around for it:

We use Virkon to disinfect and clean with, gets rid of urine stains well too

Virkon is good too but it goes off after a couple of days. When it goes pale or smells 'bleachy' you need to make it up fresh.
I seem to recall it corrodes metal

We have been using it for years and never had that problem

I could be wrong about that but it is what someone told me when we used to use it. I think its ok if you rinse after use.
We sometimes alternate between trigene and virkon to avoid any risk of resistance developing.
To be honest the main reason I prefer trigene is the smell. Neither is nice but virkon seems to clean to your hair and clothes

We make ours up into a sprayer bottle and have never had problems with it clinging to hair or clothes either:? Mind you we use that much of it it never has chance to go off, we just make up what we need each day. We steam clean first and then spray and wipe over with virkon

It's probably because we use the stuff everywhere in the surgery: mop the floors, wash down the walls, clean the kennels and surfaces etc

You could get away with a lot less in a bucket. About half a coffee mug would be sufficient. White vinegar is fab and has 101 uses - I even clean the dog's ears out with a 25% solution of it diluted with cool boiled water. Allegedly, a 5% solution of white vinegar in water kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of viruses - if true nearly as good as domestos. :lol: You could add a tiny squirt of washing up liquid for extra cleaning power - I find the eco friendly ones with coconut based detergents are far superior to stuff like fairy liquid for cutting grease. That's the solution I normally use for doing the floors and litter trays. I do keep a spray gun of Astonish antibacterial spray for quick clean ups in the bunny kennel, but will refill it with a white vinegar solution when empty.

We used to use a fresh solution of ordinary domestos bleach in the boarding kennels mop bucket as it's one of the best parvocides there is for hard surfaces if used immediately. But bunnies are sensitive to it so you'd have to keep the animals out while mopping, mop the floor again with plain water and dry thoroughly if you want to be 100% sure. We had a bad experience once at the boarding kennels with my dog in particular having a severe allergic reaction to a very expensive specialist kennel disinfectant and needing veterinary treatment for it. Since then I am loath to use anything but old fashioned stuff round my dogs and bunsters. Also don't touch anything pine scented or pine based.
