  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Viktoria keeps scratching butt!!

Norman

New Kit
My rabbit Viktoria is acting weird, she keeps scratching her butt and has a high pulse, she lays down and does a sneezing type of noise like something is bothering her, then she somewhat jumps up and scratches her butt again and runs to another spot to sit down again. She's not very hungry. She has a rather dirty butt.

Thats all I can explain, would be very thankful for a quick response.

Take the rabbit to the vet if you think it's ill. A dirty bum needs cleaning as it will soon attract flys.

Completely agree with this post. Please takes her to the vets.

Right now I dont have any way to get her there... I just gave her a little "shower" of fresh water on her body, she just doesn't seem ill... she immediatly cleaned herself, her eyes are normally open, her ears are normal, she's just laying down alot. But when she moves around, also that seems normal. My guess is a tiny heat-stroke? ( we have 31°C outside ) But she has full shade...

Now her pulse seems to be a bit lower than before, and she started digging to get some fresh soil to lay on.
