  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

myxomatosis

Hi the vet reacons my babbie rabbit has it, so i have seperated her from her sister who was in the same hutch, if her sister does get how long will it take for the symptoms to come out like the sore eyes, and could it go over to the hutch i have next to it, thanks kerry

Your vet should have explained everything to you. Did you mention you had another bun? have they been jabbed?
you need to really scrub out hutches with disinfectant and get rid of all dirty bedding. Its usually passed via flea/isect bites and signs norm appear after 1 week some pics for you to look at so you know what to watch out for go to M http://www.hoppybunnyrabbit.com/h_o.html
if vaccinated the chances are good although they still look pretty bad!

You need to thoroughly wash hands and change clothes in between handling your Myxi bun and any other rabbits you have - Myxi can also be spread through direct contact of discharge from mucous membranes. Did the vet prescribe pain relief and antibiotics to prevent secondary infections? How about fluids and critical care/recovery syringe food? Has your baby bun been vaccinated before she contracted Myxi? Have your other buns been vaccinated recently? Are any showing symptoms? Do you have any mozzi protection? fly nets or blue light fly killers to reduce risk of biting insects transmitting the virus? Hope your baby bun pulls through. :(

She does not stop eating, tonight she has has a big cabbage leaf, carrot and half a bowl of pellets, she has no lumps and bumps just swollen eyes. she is having antibiotic eye cream and stuff to put on her mouth as well.
