Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Age to Neuter Baby Bun

Hi there,

What age is best to neuter a bunny?

I have always got my bunnies as adults (taken ones that have been abandoned or not wanted) so never had bunny from baby really.

Opinions vary and it depends on what your vet is willing to do as well.

My vet will neuter boys from around 14 -16 weeks (providing plums have dropped) and they will spay females from around 4 1/2 mths of age. Other people will probably say different though. :)

My vet has said six months. They can sometimes do it before depending on size of the bunny.

Bucks- as soon as plums drop, varies with size/breed of Bunny but usually 14-16weeks

Does- 5-6 months. Any younger and the ovaries are still very underdeveloped and difficult to locate. If any ovarian tissue is missed the Doe will still be prone to hormonal behaviour (aggression, pseudo-pregnancies etc) and will still be at risk of ovarian cancer in later life.
