Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit has tooth missing!

Sally

New Kit
So long story short, I got my 2nd bunny from a friend, s/he is apx 3yrs old. So far , we have had him about 3 weeks, and to be perfectly honest he seems a bit of a grumpy sod!! I put this down to being in a new home, this evening however he was thumping like crazy in his cage, and I saw some fur in his cage which is unusal, so i wrapped him in a towel, to try and do some checks on him, I only managed to check his teeth before he wriggled free, but he only had one bottom tooth, and it overlaps the top 2. It's very long.

Since we have had him, I have offered him or her, the same veg as our other rabbit, he doesnt touch it, he does eat his bunny brunch food, but he is very sad. Is this a serious problem? I will take him to the vets asap, but im on income support and our local vets doesnt help with rabbit fee's hence neither bun being spayed/neutered yet. Would anyone have a rough guide what price im looking at for his treatment??

the vets will trim and rasp the overgrown tooth (mine used to charge £5 a time) though unless you have the front teeth removed the procedure will need to repeted (the time between treatments will obviously depend on the indervidual bunny, his diet etc)

He may need his molar teeth treating too. This would obviously cost more and is generally carried out under GA.
He is probably grumpy because his mouth hurts
I'd take him to your Vet today.

s.he is booked in for 5.50pm this evening and its £7.60 for his teeth to be clipped, will take this oppourtunity and ask the vet to sex him or her also, I hope it isnt anymore serious than it looks, it looks uncomfy for him poor little bun, hopefully he will cheer up once its done, the difference between my 2 buns is huge, our other bun "mouse" is hyper she binkys all over , i thought it was becasue she was younger, she's only 10months old. Maybe I was wrong and s/he just isnt happy :( oh well fingers crossed sorted today and no underlying issues !

Do please make sure the Vet checks the molar teeth aswell. Just 'clipping' the Incisors wont resolve things if the molar teeth are also maloccluded.

All sorted, and dog is a girl! he double checked, the missing tooth he said was not an issue, and to keep a close eye on the back teeth as becasue of the front one being so long and difficult for her to chew, she hasnt been eating a whole lot of hay, so the back ones havent been grinded down as they normally would, He said they are fine but just to try and check in a few weeks to make sure. thanks for advice!! :)
