  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My Rabbit Died

I fed and watered, gave my rabbit a carrot yesterday. He was absolutely fine, no sign of illness yet when I went out today he was on the bottom of his hutch. He had died  from sometime yesterday.

Can a rabbit just die:(? I don't know how old he was as he had been abandoned and my friend who has rabbits gave him to me as she had too many. Out of all my rabbits he was the most softest and loveliest. He was so well mannered and loved a fuss.

I'm very sorry to hear about your bunny:cry:

He probably had stasis, rabbits hide illness's well.

Unfortunately this can happen. There is always a reason such as stasis or VHD, as mentioned, but they can be fine one moment and gone the next as they deteriorate so quickly in some cases.

I am sorry for your loss :(

Yes he had all his vacs. My other 3 are fine but last week he had a mouse in with him. They have a large shed built for them that holds 4 large hutches and storage. The door is locked so no other animal can get into them so I don't think it was shock. It was just so sudden.

I had a house rabbit die suddenly. At 2.00 pm she was begging, I went out of the room, when I went back 4.00 pm she was dead. It couldn't have been any big shock for her either. She was being treated for mites and I now know that could have meant she had an underlying condition that I was unaware of at the time. I'll never know for sure why though, but I can sympathise with your shock.

So sorry for your loss, my little one left me suddenly too, 3pm fine, 5pm gone i had a pm done and he had an enlarged heart (a birth defect) so it could have been something like that.
