  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Growing dewlap?

Moogles dewlap seems to be getting bigger. there are no lumps in it but Buttons has just had an abscess removed from his and Its made me paranoid about all of my rabbits. I've been checking them all over daily. Should I be concerned?

Thanks angie, she has been spayed but only recently. She hasn't put any weight on either. Do they get bigger with age?

Mango Fattyharebit's dewlap was huge when I got her but it shrank after she was spayed and is hardly noticeable now :)

Thanks for all the reples. Looks like it's normal for them to shrink and grow but I'll keep checking just in case.
P.S Daisy's lovely.:)

I wouldnt worry too much. I had one female with NO dewlap, but my other one has the biggest one ever, all the vets said its the biggest theyve ever seen. Hers seems to be purely fur, no fat store, as she's recently lost weight but her dewlap is as big as ever. The vets hate it when it comes to teeth checking time, as she really buries herself into it.lol.

My young spayed female has also started to get a small dewlap, but iv noticed shes started to get podgey, so she may need a diet...lol.
