  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

One of those wee questions...

My bun is approaching 12 weeks and until yesterday had only peed in her cage or a litterbox if in the living room.

Last last night she peed a LOT in her litterbox, an hour later relieved herself on my duvet and then 10 mins ago she did the same on my pink robe which I was wearing at the time.

I gave her cauliflower for the first time yesterday and I ran out of pellets the day before yesterday and I'm trying to make up for it by giving her a little more veg. I'm about to nip out for more.

The thing about the urine is that it's clear and relatively odourless. Should I be calling a vet sometime soon?

Apart from this, she's been fine. Her hay intake is a tad more than usual (I'm thinking because her pellet intake has been reduced?) and her poos are healthy.

Well, loss of litter habits is not uncommon in a rabbit when the hormones begin to kick in, territorial behaviour starts to get in the way. However, if you are concerned at all that she is excessively peeing or drinking then I would pop her to the vet to check for a UTI or bladder infection first.

I managed to get her some pellets and it seems like she's picking up again. She's only peed in her cage and her urine looks more healthy than it did. She's running around a lot too, but I'll be keeping an eye on her :)
