What to do next?Update- now know whats wrong

My girl Foofoo has being having problems with wetting herself for a while now, Shes had a scan of her bladder done, urine samples taken and two sets of blood taken (one to check for EC) and sent to a specialist at the royal vet school in Edinburgh which have all come back fine.

The specialist has suggested to my vet about some off licence drug for incontinence but I haven't heard of this before :?

Foofoo seems well in herself, most days she stays dry at the moment only sometimes she'll have a bad day with wetting herself and she still goes to the litter tray to pee.

We're unsure if she has been spayed or not which worries me a lot and I've mentioned this to my vet which seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Her stomach also becomes hard at times (vet doesn't know what causing this) but she always has a very good appetite and her poo's are normal.

I don't know what to do next for her and if all this is linked to her maybe not being spayed. Would it be best to have her opened up first to see if she has be spayed before starting any other treatment? And could anyone tell me what might be causing her tummy to become hard at times? Thanks

Has she had an abdominal ultrasound ?

Thanks for that link. No she hasn't had an abdominal ultrasound, my vet doesn't seemed too concerned about her stomach becoming hard as shes still eating normally and at that time it wasn't hard all the time.

I'm not convinced this is normal and her stomach has this hard lump everyday now, it doesn't go away.

Could she have the ultrasound done at the same time as being opened up to check if she has been spayed or would it mean she has to go under GA twice?

Hello, sorry to hear Foofoo has been having problems An ultrasound can usually show whether they have been spayed or not and can be used to detect any abnormalities so she wouldn't necessarily need to be opened up.
I don't know what could cause her stomach to go hard but I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Thanks Ashley I've asked my vet before about Foofoo having a scan to see if she has been spayed and my vet said that she wouldn't be able to tell if she has been spayed and only a rabbit specialist that scans rabbits all the time would be able to tell :?

Thats why I was confused. I'll speak to my vet again and see if she can do the ultrasound and if not then recommend a vet in the area that can.

I hope you manage to get things sorted for Foofoo. The vet I see in Dunfermline is very experienced with rabbits. He also performs laparoscopic surgery so if she did end up needing surgery to check, it would be much less invasive. I don't know if that is far from you though. Hopefully your vet will know of someone closer who can scan her if it is too far.

We're just a short drive from st.andrews so Dunfermline is a while away from us but I will take her there if my vet can't help me find someone experienced. The only thing that worries me is the car journey stressing her and Ted but I'll just have to hope they'll be okay with it.

Yeah Dunfermline is about an hour from St. Andrews which is quite long to travel with the buns. They might be ok, it depends on how well they cope with travelling.

Thanks for recommending that vet I wish my vet was a bit faster at getting this sorted for Foofoo but if she can't then we'll take her to your vet as soon as possible.

We took Foofoo to see Romain, hes a really great vet and now we have a better picture of whats causing the incontinence. Foofoo has abnormalities in two parts of her spine, at one part the bone is trying to fuse together, this could be one of the reasons for her wetting herself and the cause of her distended stomach.

She has been spayed which is a relief and her bladder is fine but there may be some issues with the way her brain is working (I can't remember all the terms for it) but while she was at the vets she started shaking her head from side to side and her eyes were darting around. I wasn't there when It happened and was shocked when the vet told me about it, when shes scared of me picking her up her eyes look strange but I've never experienced anything like that with her. This could also be linked to her wetting herself.

For now shes on a much higher dose of metacam to see if that helps then the metacam is to be stopped for a while to see if theres a difference in the way shes moving around. I've also to restrict her jumping which will be a task!

Surgery on her spine would be the last option and is only to be considered if her quality of life becomes poor which it isn't at the moment. I'm glad we now know what the problems are but sad for my little girl.

Hello, I'm glad you have some answers now. I'm sorry it wasn't better news but I hope she can remain comfortable and happy and that the higher dose of metacam will help her.

I'm glad you went to see Romain. He is an outstanding vet in my opinion based on two lectures given by him and various papers I have seen that he has written. I think that your rabbit was in very good hands.

Thank you both. I will be taking my other buns to see Romain too. I've just been wasting my time with the other vets, I'm angry that they've missed something like that and haven't taken my concerns seriously.

Foofoo still isn't herself today, shes not eating any hay yet, her poo is small and she been dribbling wee a lot . I gave her metacam a short while ago so I hope it makes her more comfortable soon.
