  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just curious, does anyone know why it works as a preventative and treatment for cats and dogs but only a treatment for rabbits :?

Errm...for a guess it's because current thinking by the vet profession is that rabbits don't require a regular flea prevention regime like cats or dogs do? :?

That sounds plausible. Also the data sheet on NOAH says that it works as a preventative for 3-4 weeks for cats/dogs and 1 week for rabbits. So presumably it is metabolised much more quickly in the rabbit so isn't effective as an ongoing preventative measure without giving huge weekly doses.

That makes sense :)

I wasn't saying they did need prevention, but it says on the box that it is a prevention for cats and dogs but only a treatment for rabbits yet obviously it is the same stuff. So I was wondering why it works differently on rabbits :)

Santa's explanation makes perfect sense as always:)

One possibility is they just haven't tested it for that so can't make the claim on the box :)

That is probably very true!

My vet told me to ignore the instructions on the box re. applying the advantage every week, because in their experience every 3 or 4 weeks was fine for rabbits
