I just don't know what's wrong with him

Going to have to call the vet again today but she's as stumped as I am at the moment. :(:(

Thank you. I can't stop crying because I feel like I can't get through to the vet that something is very wrong with him.

He is getting worse each day and all night he's made horrid snoring-snuffly sounds and is having problems swallowing again.

Is there another vet you could see ?
As we all know on here, some vets are a lot better than others !!!!!

I had a bit of a hoo har with my actual vets yesterday because I told them I was going to take him elsewhere (my usual rabbit vet is on holiday) but they assured me that the vet I was seeing was competent with rabbits, as my vet is training her up where rabbits are concerned. She helped with his dental last week... it's been since then that things haven't been quite right so my fear is that it's related.

She gave him a thorough examination, but I really think he has something going on in his nasal cavity or airway.

He is snuffly without any nasal discharge but was having fits of snorting last night. He's eating, but not his usual Science Selective (normally he has that soaked), he's having no problem eating greens or a muesli mix food and is still pooing, although not as much but that's probably because he isn't eating his normal amount. He's been behaving normally but doing this really odd thing with his swallowing when trying to eat the grass. He stopped doing it yesterday until I had him at the vets last night and she had been prodding around in his mouth.

His mouth is probably still sore as he lost a molar, but that doesn't account for the nasal sounds. :?

Did she listen to his chest? I wonder if he has a lower respiratory infection or even something obstructing somewhere? hence the dysphagia and snorting? It does sound like she is not fully 'competent' yet if still undergoing training...I think you need to take your bun somewhere someone is...or ask for a referral...if she's stumped she's kinda professionally obliged to make a referral...it would be the 'appropriate' thing to do.

Whereabouts are you? Perhaps we can suggest someone? You are allowed to seek another opinion....as long as any other vet keeps in contact with yours and sends notes across.....'you' are the paying customer don't forget...i think if you are this worried you should seek a 2nd opinion or ask for a referral asap.

Thank you for your advice. She is a fully qualified young vet, just as we all know not many are good with rabbits as they don't get much training at vet school!! My practice has a vet who specialises in rabbits, and she's making sure the other vets are up to date with rabbit medicine, which is what I meant by 'training her up' ;)

I do have another vet about an hour away who I will take him to depending on what happens this morning. I'm taking Teddy back to the vets at 11.45 and she is going to check his nose and mouth again, I think he will probably need an anaesthetic and x-rays.

Personally I think he may have an obstruction of some sort which would account for both the nasal sounds and the abnormal swallowing (only does this when eating grass), his chest is clear as he had that checked last night. His breathing is normal too.

She put him on a course of baytril last night as a precaution incase he had the start of an upper respiratory infection, but said that if he deteriorated then he will have to have further examinations done, it just wasn't something she wanted to do straightaway if it was a mild infection. Up until this monring he was behaving completely as normal, his wheezing was mild and he had stopped the swallowing thing, he just seems to have gotten worse overnight.... :(

I have only just seen this

I do hope Teddy will be OK.

Thank you Jane. I'm tearing my hair out. It's so difficult to pinpoint what is wrong when his symptoms are so vague and I can't 'show' the vet what I mean. He's had some spring greens and broccoli and eats them no problem, but then he just sits there and will do that thing with his throat. :(

when he had his dental did they put a tube down his throat at all ...could it be damaged / sore / swollen from that ?? ..

if not ..dont know ..

hope hes ok ..

I have a snoring bunny here with no discharge and antibiotics haven't helped. The vet could find no cause for it when she was in rescue.

I am going to get her checked again next week with my vet when she does a home visit. If they come up with anything I will let you know.

In the meantime sending lots of vibes
