  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

help needed asap plzzzzzzzzz

hi im new to this forum and hope someone can shed some light on this problem.
i have a haaskluer boy who is about a year old now and over the last few weeks hes acting really stressed. he has started to lose weight but is still eating his normal amount of food.
he still runs around like normal.
but the problem is his breathing keeps going really fast and so does his heart rate, and hes just getting really stressed with his head. he also cant keep still when he lays down like hes really aggitated and on the fidgite (sorry about the spelling) he keeps throwing himself down to lay down too. he went to the vets last week and was checked all over and even sedated to check his teeth and all was fine.
but i had to take him back today as he just started again but even worse and now my vet is puzzled like me. he says theres something not right at all. when we were there he got even worse and started to hyperventilate and they were going to keep him in but i said no as i thought he might be a little bit calmer at home.
ive got to take him back in the morning to have a blood test done which has got to go to the lab to be tested. but this is driving me crazy as you wish they could just talk when this happens so you can help them.
does anyone think it might be a tumor on the brain??, as it looks like he has pain from there.
thanks for your help

Hi, I'm sorry I can't help. There aren;t ususally many people on at this time of night. Post in Rabbit Chat, as often people don't look in the health section. I am sure someone will be able to help in the morning so keep checking back. Really hope your bunny is ok. What is a haaskluer? I've never heard it before.

Is he pooing and eating normally? I would be concerned about his weight loss. It could be a number of things from an active EC infection or respiratory infection... the symptoms you describe are quite vague. Hopefully his bloods might help your vet make a diagnosis, if not I would suggest that your vet refers him to an exotics specialist in rabbits. He's very young to be losing weight like this and having breathing difficulties....Has he been given some pain relief? or treated for a suspected EC infection at all? Does he have any discharge or wetness around his nose? Any brain lesion can only be seen by MRI.
