  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, concern about my rabbit

New Kit
I have Netherland Dwarf rabbit who is about 4 or 5 years old. Recently she's been putting her head down a lot on the ground, which she's never done before, and it's been worrying me and my mum.

We took her to the vets, but they couldn't find anything wrong with her.

Is this something we should be concerned about, or should we just regard it as a new habit?

Any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Hmm - I have never heard of this. Is she flopping out? (Laying completely on her side with legs stretched out?) Or is she putting it on the floor while laying down (like a sphinx).

Are you sure she's not just flaking out?

My Joey often does a bit of a flop and then rests his chin on the floor. It looks ever so sad but it's just his way of relaxing and means he's comfortable :)

She's not flopping out, she only does that when tired. She'll be sitting up, then bow her head, but keep the rest of her body standing (if that makes any sense).

A couple of weeks on she's still doing this, but I think she has just developed a new habit (expensive at that after we paid for her visit to the vet!)

Thank you for your interest and suggestions.
