  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EC- Bleach cleaning

What can you use for days 21 and 28 of the course?

I work in a vets and we use a disinfectant product called 'Trigene' - anyone heard of this? Is it the right type of thing to use?

What is the best way to do it? Sorry, never had to do it before :(

I use ordinary thin bleach diluted 10:1
I then rinse off with boiling water.

AFAIK Trigene is ineffective against EC spores, but I may be wrong

Ok, thanks Jane.

They live in a shed. The floor has Lino and he walls are insulated and then hardboard over the top. How thorough do I need to be? I know that sounds like a silly question but do I need to do the walls and ceiling of the shed or just the places the bunnies have been? Obviously litter trays, shelves, toys, food bowls, water bowls etc will be cleaned (is it ok to clean their bowls with bleach or should be just get them new ones?)

I think it is carried in the wee so anywhere that could have been contaminated by wee or touched by wee contaminated paws, fur, toys etc.

Sure its fine to bleach the bowls just rinse and wash again after.
