  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lumps.....

Hi, I recently took Stella to the vets as I had noticed some lumps on her. they seem to be coming up all over and are not localised to one place. On closer inspection, they are bits of matted fur/skin. the vet seemed to think they were cysts that had popped and the matted fur was as a result of this goo. He said to leave them for now and just keep an eye on her as they dont seem to bother her - she lets me touch them and doesnt seem in pain.

She is eating normally and running round normally. I'm just concerned that more are appearing.

Can anyone give me some advice or reassurance. Why is she getting these lumps and is there anything I can do?

Poor Stella has dental issues (recently had another GA dental), blocked tear dusts and a runny nose (the eyes and nose the vet thinks are as a result of the teeth) and now these lumps have appeared. I feel really bad for her:cry:. Poor bun has a lot to put up with

Poor Stella :( Is she on pain relief? I don't know about the lumps...could they be an autoimmune reaction? Has she had her Myxi jab in the last 6-12 months? I'm thinking of cutaneous myxi nodules? Long-shot and unlikely though. I suppose they could be lymph nodes? Do they all weep and do they recede at all? I would take her back to the vet and request a referral to an exotics specialist if your vet is uncertain....that would be the best thing I think. Good luck :)

no, she's not on any medication. she had her myxi jab a couple of months ago - can that cause these lumps?

they dont seem to weep as such. the vet thinks that they are cysts that pop and then dry out. she's left with flakey bits but they are not attached to her skin and i can get them off quite easily. once the flakey bit comes off, the area is fine. sorry, i'm not explaining this very well - its really hard to get pics as well - she is quite fluffy!!!

She doesnt seem bothered by them and they dont seem to be causing her any pain. the vet said they weren't something that would cause him concern, I was just ondering if anyone had any other ideas on how I could treat them/stop them?
