  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I need a very good one as one of my bunnies has possible E-Cuniculi. Have just bought some vetark or arkclens or whatever its called. Is this one appropriate? Its made specifically for birds which is a bit confusing.
Virkon was on sale to but at £20 a bottle there is no way i can afford it.

I've never had a bun with EC but I understand the appropriate disinfectant method is to use a bleach solution as this is the only thing that will kill the spores. Bleach is less than £1 in my local supermarket :D
I think you need to then do a hot water rinse afterwards apparently? Hopefully someone else can verify this for you. Good luck, hope bun gets better soon. :)

A 10% bleach solution will kill EC spores. Boiling water is also meant to do so. I prefer to use both and use the 10% bleach solution first then rinse with boiling water.
It's important to ensure that a thorough bleach clean is done on days 21 and 28 of Fenbendazole treatment.

I use F10SC - someone here recommended it. I got it on ebay and it's not too expensive at all - very concentrated. Think I paid around £8 for mine, months and months back and haven't even used a third of it yet. It says it kills spores as well as viruses and bacteria.
