Using multiple vets

Becki xX

Does anyone use multiple vets for the same animal at all? I'm not talking about say an average vet & then a referral vet. I can never get in at the vets I use for the rabbits & Charlie, so keep having to take them to the other vets in town. Im not even sure its allowed but I'd rather they get seen by one than having to wait :?

Hi

I do.

I work for a vet group practice and don't always use the same vet but may go to one of the others at a different location with the same animal depending on what I want done.

I also use a totally unconnected vet (with her own practice) for the same animals if I need to as she lives in our village and covers all of her own emergency work. So if I need something after hours or at the weekend, I would rather go see her than have to troop all the way to the locum practice 30 odd miles away. This lady vet also does all our foster rabbit work.

I do believe that some vets would not wish to treat another vet's client without having the history faxed over as it can cause issues with a difference of opinion. Luckily my preferred two vets, whilst at two different vet practices are happy with each others work.

I tried to do this but the vets wouldn't agree to it. It caused a huge ill feeling when I was trying to get Star spayed under another vet and the original vet ended up losing me and my 4 bun's through it.

i use the same vets but there are two different branches that i use... the one closest has less vets so is harder to get an appointment, but the exotics vet works there.. the other one i use in an emergency (before 10:30pm) or of a weekend.. i think they are a pretty large practice so i never have problems getting seen..

i think i prefer just using the one as id get really confused if i went to another one as well

I used to have all jabs done at my local vet and specialist bunny stuff ie. spays and neuters etc at a bunny savvy vet half an hours drive away. Both vets were aware of this and didn't mind. I think that as long as you fully explain what you're going to do, most vets don't mind. After all, some business is better than no business.

However, my bunny savvy vet is so good that I decided to go to him for everything bunny-related, despite the half hour drive, which is a bit stressful for the bunsters. They get such a good MOT when they go for jabs that it's worth it.

So I now just take my dogs to the local vet
