Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi can anyone tell if you can shower rabbits,my rabbit has a dirty bum have tryed cleaning it with warm water but cause he has thick fur it isn't cleaning it off very well so would like to know if it would be ok to give him a shower to clean it properly many thanks.

A healthy Rabbit should not have a mucky bum so aswell as cleaning him up you also need to ascertain why he is unable to clean himself.

I would not advise showering him, Rabbits easily chill.
I would fill a bowl with warm water and just sit him in it and only wet his rear end. Make sure he is thoroughly dry before putting him back outdoors if he is an outdoor Rabbit. You can dry him with a hairdryer on a cool setting if he will tolerate it.

As regards to the causes of his problem it may be due to his diet (too much concentrate feed and not enough hay), Dental problems, arthritic spinal pain or obesity.

I would get him checked over by your Vet aswell as making sure he is clean.
If he has an ongoing problem with a mucky bum he will be at very high risk of Flystrike
