Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

head shaking

Hi, just got a couple of questions about our bunny, he has hard tiny lumps on the back of his ears, my daughter said this is dry skin, but im not sure, also he keeps shaking his head, just wandered if this is normal?

Head shaking can be signs of mites, an ear infection or EC.
A trip to the vets would be best as these things can cause potentially worse problems, but could be treated easily if caught early.

We have a lop called Pud and if I point a finger at him for being naughty he shakes his head in fact he shakes his head a lot because he is such a naughty boy . :)

In the past one of my buns shook his head a lot and when the vet looked in his ears one of them was full of wax! He had it cleaned out and no more head shaking.

So, don't worry, it could be something simple. I've never heard of head shaking being a symptoms of E.c so it can't be one of the major symptoms and if your bun isn't showing others then I wouldn't get too concerned just yet.

One of mine shakes his head lots - theres nothing wrong with his ears (no mites, no wax, no infection), and he doesn't have E.c, we concluded that he just likes it!
