Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

having my bunnys teeth removed

im having my bunnys front teeth removed tomorrow! im so worried!can anyone give me any information on how their bunnys copped with no front teeth xxx

Hiya

My Maddie had her front teeth taken out 3 weeks ago, so I can tell you what we've done the last 3 weeks.

For a week afterwards, I was blending up all her veg in a mini food processor, which made it really easy to get food into her. She could manage pellets fine too - shes on Science Selective mature, so theyre about the size of a 5p coin. Anything smaller, she seemed to have trouble getting into her mouth.

Now I just chop her veg into bite size pieces and she can manage strips of greens and kale etc ok by herself.

She wasn't eating any hay, so I've been giving her dried grass to get her fibre levels upped, but this week shes started to eat chopped up Oat hay, so she is almost back to normal.

I had her on pain relief for about a week also.

If you've any more questions - just ask!

Hope bunny gets through the op ok - make sure they have pain relief and try to get them eating as soon as you can.

Good luck

thankyou for the advise just had a call to say she is ok and recovering well!! she has had a abcess on her lower jaw for 5 months now and they are not sure what the cause is. it wont go away! does anyone know a rabbit specialist? xxx

Maddie had lower jaw abscesses too (3 in total) and we found from an xray that her tooth roots were infected, hence we took the incisors out!

You might find that this solves the abscesses, but you should ask your vet to look into that problem as a separate issue really. Where abouts are you in the country, someone might be able to suggest a savvy vet??
