could she have been mistreated previously?

I have always kinda wondered it but no i think she may have been.

Cookie was my first rabbit, i got her in febuary, from a pet shop as i didnt really know about rescues for rabbits ect, i instantly liked her, she was in a small cage with a GP >.<, and she had a couple of scars on her back and they said thts where the GP had nipped at her and tht the fur would grow back soon, (its only small) at first she tolorated being stroked but as soon as she settled in she did not, and still doesnt

at first i assumed she just really didnt like me but thats no the case, so ive been hand feeding her most of her veg and pellets ect and tryin to rub her nose while i do occasionaly she lets me do it and rarely, will let me stroke her,

but usualy if she sees my hand goin near her she runs, but i noticed yesterday she has no problem if i kissed her on the nose, at all,

but still, like 6months on(im no good with months!) she still has them scars so i dunno if a GP would of done tht much damage as she is a bossy one would probably give a go back

so it kinda raises suspicions, is she like this cos she could of been mistreated by the breeder or wherever she was before the shop, i do go in that shop for bits for the rabbits still and i can see they care about them and everything so i doubt it would of gone on there

hi
it may of been a scarey time for cookie but keep up with what you are doing. it does take time but in the end it is worth every moment. and think how lucky she is that she has you!:love:

rather than mis-treated i would think she was not handled.. Alvin was in a hutch with his brothers and sisters and mom when i got him at 8 weeks... they had a small child and a few other buns about the place.. i would say lack of time meant lack of handling so less trusting of humans

im fairly certain Alvin was not mistreated but he acts as if he was :(

also another factor is is bunn already neutered? this would possibly help with her scaredyness. a lot of time and patience i am not sure what damage a g.pig could inflict but certaintly she could have scarring for various reason s including a hutch mate biting her? x

yeh she was spayed a few months back, she didnt change a bit :p and she is alone at the moment, untill charlie is neutered on tomorow and his hormones have died down :p, he is the most friendliest little creature ive ever met, so i hope cookie starts to pick up on the fact that being stroked isnt bad cos he enjoys it :p

Ditto, I had Sophie from 8 weeks, but she came from a house where there where lots of animals ( all where clean and cared for etc, but it makes me wonder how much time these people had to handle and socialise baby rabbits) as a result Sophie, doesn't really care for human contact.

It also could be that like humans it is just their personality, just like some humans don't like certain other humans.

Sophie is much better now she is in a 4some, and will actively come up to the front of the cage, and knows she will get a treat or fed something. She is a lot more settled once she is picked up and sometime will let you pick her up, but others she will fight hard to be free.
