  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi,
Today i had Silver at the vets for his weepy eyes. Now they are really nice and get you an appointment really quick but i dont think they are the best bunny vets around.Silver had some dye put in his eye and when very little came out the vet told me some buns are just like that and i was given some cream for his conjunctivitis. Is it common for a vet to not mention blocked ducts and just leave it at that? they have always said just to go back if i need to and they are really well priced but that doesn't neccessarily make the best care.
The problem is do i change vets.I have looked at another vet as i was shocked at prices at my local vets for neutering and the surgery about 15min drive away sounds quite good but how do i find out if they are good with rabbits?

Hi Shelley,I had take my mini lop rabbit to the vets a month ago with a weepy eye, they also put a dye in harrys eyes , they told me that mini lops always get sore eyes or ears , i have since changed vets last week they give me some eye drops called Fucithalmic and they seem to be working:D, the vet said sometimes the hay or the bedding can cause them to get weepy eyes i bathe harry eyes with warm water after i put his drops in i hope this helps this is the first time i have had my own Rabbit so i am learning too:D:wave:

I would bathe the eye before putting drop in so as not to rinse out the drops if that makes sense.
If you dribble just wipe that with a clean tissue.
We have had loads of trouble with angels eye due to her mouth disease but fucithalmic was the best drops I found although my proper rabbit vet couldnt understand why as it shouldnt have worked for her?
