  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
hi there,i am new to the site, after hours of searching for answers i still cannot find anything! My rabbit nugget died suddenly last night! We went to get her from her run for her daily run about, but she was stiff, still breathing but no life!Picked her up,opened her mouth and her whole mouth was full of her own poo, tried everything to get it out,but i was absouletly blocked and there was nothing we could do and stopped breathing in my arms!Im just wondering what the cause of this could be?Cause i have read that its normal for a rabbit to eat its own poo.Could there have been a blockage? My family think im being silly, but i really am quite sad about the situation and feel that i could have done something to prevent the situation. All comments would be very much appreciated.

Rabbits eat their soft caestrophs (sp?) She could have been half way through when she had a fit? Or choked?
To put your mind at rest you could to a Post Mortem?
If you have any other buns this can help determine whether the cause of death is a danger to your other buns, eg. VHD.

Getting a vet to do a post-mortem is the only way to find out really :? it's not nice to think about but could put your mind at rest. I'm sorry for your loss

No suggestion to what happened, but just wanted to say i know what your feeling and im so sorry for your loss xx
