Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How many unvaccinated rabbits get myxi or VHD?

Furries

Warren Scout
Does anybody know the percentage of un-vaccinated rabbits who get myxi or VHD each year? I asked my vet and she didn't know. I've had a look on the internet and I couldn't find anything.

Also, is it true that 50% of vaccinated rabbits still get myxi, it's just that they're less likely to die? Again, what are the odds - do 50% of vaccinated rabbits still die, or are the odds better than this?

Thanks.

I have kept rabbit most of my life ( now aged 44 ) and only ever had one rabbit get myxy at that time i had 17 rabbits all unvaccinated . I dont know % but having the vaccination gives them a better chance of survival if they catch it but there are risks with vaccinations and rabbits can be left with some dammage after recovery from myxy . I personaly think its down to your own personal choice wether to vaccinate or not and dont be bullied into it because others think its the best thing to do ;)
