  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

new bunny

Young Bun
I got a 2 year old lop cross from a rescue centre last sunday . He is not neutered and I am not sure if he has had any vaccinations recently. The vet report from the centre did not have anything on it and when i asked if they had given him any vaccs they said they hadnt.

I was advised on here to wait til he settles into his new house until I get him neutered but am I ok to wait til then to get his vaccinations done? He is a house bunny btw.

Hi  Congrats on your new bun.
I would get the myxi vacc done soon as there's quite alot about at the mo xx

what kind of rescue centre gives a bun un-neutered and un-vaccinated???

I'd get his mixy jab done ASAP, then 2 weeks later his VHD and then hin neuter. Good luck with your new boy!

it was an rscpa centre. i was actually pretty shocked at the rescue centre. I had been reading up a bit about rabbits before i got him but when i went to see him, he was in a very small room with cages stacked on top of each other :(. the room had about 10 other bunnys, 5 ferrets, a budgie and a parrot in it!! i am not an experienced rabbit owner but i thought this was a bit cramped! the room was stinking but i guess its a lack of funding which is very sad indeed
