  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Incorrectly administered Myxi jab??!

I took my rabbits for their jab and was worried when the vet put the whole injection in at once! :shock:When I queried this procedure she said it was ok and was a bit short with me.........I have since got the actual vaccine instructions from my friend and it clearly says ( and I was sure I was right but how can you argue with a vet ???!!!) 0.1 ml intradermal and then 0.9 ml subcutaneous My buns now need the 0.1 ml administered again .....properly.
How do I word my letter or how do I put it to the vet that she's wrong.......politely but firmly ?
I have already spoken to someone else today from a different area to whom this has also happened ....What's going on?? :censored:

Maybe you could ask another vet for their opinion and see if they need it again or what the affects are of having it all like yours have?
My vet gives some under the skin and then the rest in deeper.

Do you know she definately didn't give part of the injection intradermally?

It often doesn't look like part of it is done that way when it actually is. The vet doesn't need to remove the needle and insert it again for the intradermal part :)

I queried this too...

My vet said he doesnt take the needle out but does it under the skin near the actual injection sight. I couldnt see that through the fur. He said he never does it in the ears becuase they are so sensitive and he worries that he might pierce the whole ear!!
