Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
Hiya,

Im new to this forum but thought someone may be able to help me!

I've never had bunnies before and recently bought 2, a male and a female. They will be about 9 weeks old now.

They are both really lively and are always jumping about and are really friendly. They have had no problems with eating or drinking in the past either.

We have come to them this morning and the female is not her usual self, she is just lying down not moving, she wont eat or drink anything. We have picked her up and her back half is very floppy almost like a rag doll. There are no signs of sloppy poo or anything like that in her cage either. Her nose isnt twitching and her eyes seem very drowsy?!

Can anyone offer any advice or has anyone had any similar problems and could shed some light.

Thanks
Gem and Liam

There are lots of possiblities.
Spinal injury, stasis, bloat, e.c. etc etc

Keep her warm a call the emergency vet now she will need to be seen asap.
When you need to move her to take her to the vet, slide a flat piece of wood under her carefully, just in case there are spinal injuries
Good luck at the vets- I hope they can help xx

It could be a number of things but I would be very concerned.
I dont think you dont have any other choice than to get her to a vet today.
Good luck xx

Hi guys,

My bunny has died this afternoon. We didnt have time to take her to the vets! I cant belive it and im really not sure what has happened. The rest of her body started going floppy n she couldn't hold her neck up then just passed away in my arms!

:(

The only thing im worried about now is that her brother Frank is goning to get lonely?? Does it affect the brother if her see's his sister like that?? Should we get another one??

RIP Sally!

I'm so sorry for your loss.RIP Sally. If i were you I would wait a while just to make sure there isn't a contagious infection going on then get Frank a friend

I'm sorry you lost your bunny :(
It's especially hard when you don't know what happened. A P.M. might give you some answers, then again it might not.
I hope your other bunny is ok. I would look into getting him a friend at some point or he will be lonely, but it's difficult to advise when xx
