please help i am on hte phone to mum whos elderly rabbit sooty (10years) is very sick this mornign she wasnt eating/drinking and she was rushed to see the vet asap a rabbit specialist. they found only that her tounge was sore patches they thought due to infection (her teeth were fine) she has had pain relief fluids, antibiotics and a gut stimulant and is currently at home. the vet said her stomach was aslightly doughy but otherwise she was normal with a low temperature the vet said he didnt think it was ec and she was pannacured a while back. i am wondering if its frs adn if it is what we can give her it may be just her time she is not stressed but if we can save her we will....please any advice is needed asap the rabbit savvy vet has gone home and while we will happily take her back to the vets we dont know what else they could do espeicially if it is just their time...she is on a heat pad on mums lap... help.she is neutered and fully vaccinated.:cry::cry:

Hi,I'm no expert but If she has sore patches on her tongue maybe it would suggest she has little burs on her teeth which cant be seen unless she is anaesthetised and has a thorough examination

I really don't know about this one, but has she been given fluids at all? How long has she been without food and water? It might be advisable to syringe feed, although I'm not sure.

Did the vet do a full dental? I wouldn't rule out teeth until the back teeth are well checked.

she has had a full examination without anestetic but he could see all of her teeth and there were no burrs she has always had perfect teeth she is now nodding her head this is not a normal tooth condition it is much more serious.

yes a ful lcheck was done she has been given fluids alreasy and has been syringe fed tho is not swallowing anything in the last attempt just letting it sit in her mouth she is now nodding mum is now on phone to emergancy vets again and will call me back she last ate on her own last night without any issues but this seems to have come on very suddenly she is 10 years old and so it may be age related tho we arent sure. obviously it is very distressing what is the vit deficiency that can cause floppy rabbit syndrome and is it possible to be this what are treatments i have heard tomatoes is there anything else we can try its heartbreaking to be the other end of the phone yet be able to do nothing....... mum has just rung me back we think she has gone she made several gasping noises then has gone limp and starey eyed they are just trying to check now but i think we have lost her :cry:im obviously sat here writing this in tearsx

Im so sorry for not being much help. All i can suggest is asking Jane,Im sure she will know the answer.I really hope Sooty has a happy outcome xxxx

The only other thing I can think of by the symptoms is a stroke. If so a steroid injection may help sooty

The only thing i can think of is kidney failure, this often causes sores or ulcers in the mouth :? I really hope she can pull through :)

A 10 year old bunny is a long lived rabbit indeed. I'm sure you guys must've taken wonderful care of her for her to carry on so long in your loving family.
