Anyone with an RWAF membership??

Snowberry

Wise Old Thumper
I brought a membership a few months ago but have forgotten my username and cant find any documentation with it on.
Would anyone who can log in online mind searching for a rabbit vet with my postcode to see what it brings up? My vet is referring Snowdrop to a specialist so wondered what the RWAF brought up in my area.

What's the start of the postcode?

If you email the RWA HQ email address and tell her you can't find your membership number she can just look you up on the database from your name and address and should be able to give you the list.

Remember though the RWA list is just a list of vets that members have recommended as being good with bunnies, so the non-appearance of a vet on the list doesn't mean that they aren't a specialist, it just means that a member hasn't specifically recommended them. And conversely, just because someone's on the list, it doesn't mean they're a specialist, just that someone had a 'good' experience with them and bunnies. :)

I would say that sometimes the list has vets on it that people have recommended as being good, but it has been suggested that this doesn't always mean that they are really knowledgeable or up to date with bunny practises, it can mean that the owners just liked the vets and felt that they knew what they were doing. The recommendations can have come from someone who isn't massively rabbit savvy themselves and wouldn't necessarily know what a good vet is.

I personally would look for a recommendation from someone on here that has had to use them for something other than just a vaccination or routine check.

Just my opinion though! :D:D

Very true. I should have put a disclaimer on it! But she sounded pretty desperate :)

I appreciate that and was just wondering what was on the list really.

I wasnt too confident about the vet I use but after going tonight and being referred to a specialist I am more than happy.

Were not too sure at the minute. The vet thinks she has a chronic gut problem as she has had oddly shaped poos since we had her and now has intermitant diahorreoa. She is being referred to a specialist on Monday as my vet does not feel confident in running the diagnostics herself.

Added to that she has sore hocks too and dental spurs so im feeling terrible at the minute as all these problems have come about while she has been in my care so maybe im not the best person to look after her anymore.

By the way, your username for RWAF is your membership number. If you contact them they will confirm your login details by email (I had to do this the other day because I had forgotten my username and password! :)

I will do. Wont know anymore untill Monday now as that as soon as the vet could refer her and then she wants to send her to Bristol so not sure how thats going to work out as I work full time and its a long way from here.

You can't blame yourself for her getting spurs. It sounds like you are doing an excellent job taking her symptoms very seriously at an early stage. I hope she's okay.

My geography isn't brilliant but is Yorkshire any nearer/easier to get to than Bristol? Just thinking Frances Harcourt Brown might be nearer to you than the other specialist.

I suggested this to my vet as Frances Harcourt Brown is definately nearer for us but she said she has never contacted her before so wanted to ring someone she knew better in Bristol. If she is needing to go down there alot I will ask her to contact Frances as I am sure the car journey to Bristol wont do her much good.

Fair enough. I don't know how the etiquette works with these things you wouldn't need a referral to see FHB you could make the appointment yourself, if you were to decide this was the best course of action. I suppose this is offensive to your own vet though. It's what I did when my local vet didn't want to give Esme an anaesthetic to spay her (she stopped breathing when the local vet tried). He didn't offer to refer her though, he just advised against trying again, so the circumstances were different.

Like you've said though, at least your vet admits to not knowing and sending you to a specialist, far too many blunder along and don't take it seriously.

I know my vet wouldnt mind me making an appointment and taking her, she has said she doesnt know what it could be so is going to help me find someone who does. I will see what happens on Monday and mention this to her as a possibility.
