  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Yes he will need Myxi and VHD :), this is spread by contact with rabbits including wild ones and biting insects, mozzies and fleas. Neutering is reccomended.

He needs both Myxomatosis and VHD Vaccinations.
The Myxomatosis should be done every 6 months and the VHD every year.

Neutering will mean that your Rabbit will have less stress from 'hormonal urges' and he could also be bonded with a neutered female Rabbit. Rabbits are social animals and really need the companionship of their own kind.

Hello

Defiantly yes. Both my bunnies are house rabbits but they both have their annual VHD and Mxyi vaccinations. Also I would advise that he was neutured to stop any behavior problems and to make sure he is a happy and healthy bunny.

Another important routine is panacur, hopefully your vet should stock this.

Hope this helps :)

I agree with unalakey about the vaccs but I'm worried that you say that your bun has contact with your piggies. Buns carry Bordetella which can be fatal to guinea pigs so it's a good idea not to let them have too close contact as well as the obvious harassment and kicking issues which I'm sure you are aware of.

VHD can be brought into your house on your feet, car tyres, anything that has been in a contaminated area....every rabbit needs vaccinations, whether house bunny or not:)

he seems really happy with the piggies tho possiably cause hes identical to one of the piggies expect for being a rabbit so guess no more play time with the piggies and well contact the vet for mixi and vhd
