  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Harry

Gemsy

Young Bun
Hi I have a dwarf lop house bunny. The back door is open all day and he bobbs in and out as he pleases.
He tends to stay in more than out to be honest (his choice!) and only goes out when it is a nice day to avoid drops in temp etc.
Now yesterday he was outside for ages but just lying down on the grass in the shade.
Brought him in evening and he went straight to sleep, FLAT out, as a matter of fact he was out of it, eyes tightly shut and i think he was dreaming. Last night he ate NONE of his food. Now this isnt like him as all. Opened the back door and he shot outside to the soil and was flat out again. I have just brought him in as he was shaking when I went over to him. He is now sat on the arm of the chair curled up. He is usually mad in the mornings but all he seems to want to do is sleep. He is jabbed up to date etc I am just worried what is wrong with him. Have rang vets and they are fully booked until tomorrow, so I have booked him in for 9am.
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and what it was??
THank you for reading the essay xx

I don't have any idea what it could be but if he isn't eating and is shaking etc then he really needs to see a vet today. I would ring back and ask to get him in as soon possible - maybe the receptionist doesn't understand how quickly rabbits can go downhill.

Yes I agree, he isn't shaking now, and was just when I went over to him to see if he was ok....I will get him in the vets if he doesnt improve in next few hours.

Sadly, a few hours may be too long. Some conditions, such as acute bloat, can kill in less than that :(
Please find a vet who will see him now as an emergency
