  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I have been cleaning my rabbits tail end for a few days now. The last day have I removed feed and fed hay only and she has had no greens. I have bought best hay etc.
Checked her again this evening expecting to see an improvement and it was worse. She has pulled her fur out since yesterday and made a nest bless her and is very bright in herself.
Got the baby bath out and totally washed her back end and it is now totally clean. I literally had to squeeze it out it was so squishy.
She is about 8 years old....what to do now? All advice appreciated.

She needs to see a Vet

I am assuming she is not spayed as she is nesting ?

I hope there is no chance that she is pregnant ?

Is the faeces uneaten caecotrophs or is it true diarrhoea ?

If it is uneaten caecotrophs she may have Dental problems. Dental problems make it difficult for a Rabbit to keep themself clean. Or she may have some age related arthritis in her spine making reaching her rear end painful for her.

I would advise you to take her to a Vet tomorrow.

Probably best to get your bun checked out by the vet to be on the safe side.

I have found one of mine (he is 6) is a bit mucky lately, uneaten caetrophs and sitting in them  I think some of it is laziness during the warm weather on his part. I am currently giving him some fibreplex to try to get things back to normal (you can get from vets or online - not prescription item)

The best thing to do is try to reduce pellets and any veg so that he eats more hay.

With the warm weather make sure your bun is clean and think about treating with some Rearguard to help protect against fly strike.

Arent they a worry....no definately not pregnant! Single rabbit here, just like mum!

Im a regular at the vets, I took my old hen there for treatment and everyone laughed at me.Dont no why...afterall she was unwell so needed help. Unfortunatley she had to be PTS but at least I know she didnt suffer and thats all that matters isnt it.
