Baytril help.

Daphne & Peanut

Alpha Buck
Hi

I've just come back from taking Daphne to the vets for her check up after going into Stasis on Saturday, I mentioned that she has been sneezig on and off and the vet ad prescribed baytril. Now i'm a bit confused as to how to give it, i know it had to be given in water but it says 1ml of baytril into 50ml of water. 50ml isn't alot of water so is that 1ml to every 50ml of water i give her or do i just give her 50ml of water :?

Hope that makes sense.

I haven't mixed it with water for around 8 years, I thought vets had stopped doing that :?

It's very hard to make sure the bunny gets all the baytril unless you are syringing 50mls into your rabbit twice a day, which I imagine would be quite stressful :)

hmmm that's what I thought, how do you usually administer it? I was wondering if I put it on some of her favourite veg would that be ok , at least then i'd know she got the right dosage. it's so confusing :?

Normally I just squirt it in with a syringe followed by a squirt of Ribena as it tastes nasty.

I don't think she will take it off veg but she might if it is mixed with mushed banana or baby food.

I would also recheck the dose with your vet as now if you are not diluting it he may want you to give a smaller dose:?

My vets used to do that years ago,Vinnie is on it at the min hes on 0.8ml once a day, just squirt it straight in his mouth

Hi Tamsin,

My bunny has to have Baytril every day now for the rest of his life, to put it in the water you have to make sure she'll drink every last bit or otherwise she might not get the full dosage. The 1ml that's she's been prescribed per day you could maybe try putting on something that she'll eat, my rabbit has pellets softened with water (cause of teeth problems) so i put the 1ml onto that and let him eat that first, when he's had that i give him more food, that way he gets his dosage everyday and doesn't get stressed out with having it siringed into his mouth! Good luck - hope she gets better soon x

ive never had to mix baytril with water neither..

Alvin was on 0.8ml a day for stasis the other week... i just hid it on brown bread... i had to let it soak in over night tho as he doesnt like the taste of baytril :lol::lol:

Your vet is not experience at all. Find a rabbit specialist and switch over. You're wasting $$ for nothing

Baytril is given on a 50-50% mix w/ Tu-Tu fruit, and the liquid say 1.5 ml, is syringe feed.
