  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

chalkie is looking really thin its awful hes eating and drinking and pooping fine myxi looked like jhe lost some weight earlier in the week but seems to have put it back on think the heat got to them a bit but what can i do to help chalkie. would really appreciate some advice as really dont want to go to vets as i dont trust them after bracken

If you don't trust your vet you need to find another vet. Have you been weighing Charlie to monitor how much weight is being lost. Personally I would get it checked out by a vet.

is there anything i can try before going to the vets i.e introduce something new to the diet to help fatten him up?

Definitely find a good vet as soon as you can. He may need something simple like a dental but if he loses weight in the meantime his chances of recovery get less, same goes for any other condition it could be - the longer you leave it before getting a diagnosis the harder it will be to recover from. Personally I think that getting him to put weight back on isn't the answer, you really need to know what caused it.

I know what you mean about not trusting vets (I've been there) but it's essential to find a vet you do trust especially if you have an all out emergency (which seems to happen a lot with rabbits), by then you've got a vet you trust.

Why wait to take him :?

What is his diet like at the moment?
How old is he?
