Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stillborn litter

Sonya

New Kit
Hi I have just checked my doe and she has given birth today the first was this morning and it was stillborn another was born about 2 hours later and the last so far about 2pm all stillborn is this normal to take so long between kits and could there be any reason for the stillborns. I am a newbie to caring for rabbits so any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hi no the buck and doe are separated. I rescued the doe about 4-5 weeks ago approx from a backgarden breeder. This is def not her first litter. I couldnt just leave her there and to my knowledge on the vets advice she maybe 2 years or over. Thanks

I didnt deliberately mate her but I did leave her for a short time with my buck while I gave the new hutch a thorough clean. I know very well that was stupid but it really wont be happening again.

Yes she is eating and pooing as usual although she is very anxious at the moment she normally doesnt mind me having a quick check on her but she seems a bit skittish.

No there is nothing at all like that although about 1-2 days ago the urine was a light pink colour and a bit more odourous. She doent appear to be in any pain and the birth looked straightforward as I had the privilege of being present for the arrival of the second kit.

Well I'd probably get a Vet to take a look at her tomorrow. She may actually have a UTI if her wee has been abnormal.
The Vet can also check for any retained kits.
I would discuss spaying her.

Thanks for your help I'll be sure to take her and make sure things are just right and she wont be getting near the buck until she is spayed
