Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sore Hocks

Hi

I noticed this morning when I was checking Holly that she has got sore hocks:roll:

I can't believe that I haven't already noticed it. Holly has got a weight loss problem (see other thread) and I have been checking her very closely for the last month.

How should this be treated? Holly's hocks look sore but not infected. I'll take her to the vets this evening.

Yeah I posted about this just over a week ago my Tigerlillys hocks are looking much better now, she has an old quilt put down in the spare bedroom where she lives for her feet as she spends most of her time in there. I've also been putting cream on her hooks two times a day and the redness is now going.

When you say sore hocks, what do you mean?
I looked at mine and I was shocked that they didn't have any fur on them, and was like OH MY GOD, THEY HAVE SORE HOCKS!! But then realised that this can't be as I bonded a group of 4 who all had fur missing off their hocks.
If they are sore they should be red, inflamed etc.
