Hello all..

First a big thanks to all the advice that everyone has been posting, I am a newbie and all the advice posted has really helped me with my two new buns who I have only had for a week.

I have two black lionhead sisters (or fluffballs!) and they have totally made themselves at home with us. Until now they have been quite shy but today I sat with them in their run and they were so friendly, they climbed on me, gave me a few licks and let me stroke them for a while..I even did a bit of grooming they were so content!!

I didn't think that would happen after our trip to the vets on Friday. They got their first jabs (myxo) and didn't like me holding them to get their injections (who could blame them!) and I came off worst with a few horried scratches on my hand. Got to say I don't think the vet was rabbit savvy..wanted her to double check they were two girls and I didn't get a definate answer. How old do rabbits have to be before you can be certain?

Sorry for such a long post..I should be writing reports but had to say hello and thank you to you all and share the good news!! When I find out how I will post a few pics...

Sally, Peppa & Miss. Flopsy xx

UPDATE: pics all done hopefully!!

Hiya and welcome

A vet should defintely be able to sex them if they are old enough to be away from mum :)

Where are you, perhaps someone can reccomend a vet?

I have a black Lionhead and she is a bundle of fluff and very mischevious so watch out

Sounds like they are getting to know you :D

Hiya  welcome! cant wait to see pics of your bunnies!!

Thank you for the welcome..I'm in Colchester, Essex. Got to say I wasn't too impressed with them so any help from others would be great!

They are adorable (sorry for the extra large pic above!) and by the sounds of it quite like yours, also little mischevious..they hide as if plotting what they are going do next..our mislaid sky remote has half a button due to our carelessness, hee hee!!

Thanks for the advice  I think I have worked out photobucket and this should be a smaller pic of Miss. Flopsy (so named because she just flops!)

She is asleep in this picture and the wind was blowing her fur so she looks extra fluffy..she has got eyes and she has got short fur around her eyes.. Although may be trimming it back a bit so it doesn't become a problem.

How fluffy are they  Do they need much grooming? Poppy is fluffy but seems to keep herself in good condition

I lost several phone cables to Poppy

I think there are some members near Colchester...I have a great vet but a bit Upminster is a bit far away

I must admit I am suprised at how fluffy they are..and seem to be getting fluffier everyday..especially Miss. Flopsy. They are not big fans of being held yet but I brush them when they are eating..and they love grooming each other. But I am feeding them up on hay to help their digestion as I'm worried about how much fur they are ingesting. If anyone can help, I was going to start feeding pineapple and papaya but wasn't sure if they are old enough for that yet?

I have read that they might moult some fur out after 10 weeks..I am also paraniod about flystrike with all that fur too..the joys of long haired rabbits!!

As long as they are clean and dry I don't think flystrike should be too much of a worry, they best way to prevent it is to check the bunnies bums twice a day to make sure they are clean and dry :)

Are they outdoor buns?

At the moment they are house buns and I change their litter tray everyday (twice if needed). They do go outside, i'm gradually building up their time outside in the run, primarily because the first day they just munched for 30mins! I am wondering wether to put them outside for the summer, we have a lovely garden with lots of grass and they would love it. We decided to have them inside while we get to know them and while I build up the time on grass as I didn't want to upset their little tums.

How cute is Poppy..she is so gorgeous with the short fur, she almost looks like a westie!! I can imagine they love telephone cables..

When I first got Poppy she sounded like a Westie too barking and growling at me  She is a sweetheart now though.

I do think you get to know your buns much better if they are inside, mine are house buns.

Have you worked out Private Messages yet, sent you some vet details

Thank you..yours too! I love seeing other people's rabbits. Had problems this week with Miss. Flopsy's fur and spot on flea solution. Peppa 'kindly' groomed Miss.Flopsy after they were both treated, I tried stopping her but rabbits are determined! The next day Miss.Flopsy had a big matt in her fur, behind her ears, where Peppas cleaning had tangled the hair. We had to cut it out as it was too near the skin..bless her.

My partner is convinced that our buns have bought fleas into the house after being outside in their run. Is that likely, does anyone know? We have no other pets who use our garden and so I wasn't aware fleas lived in the grass without a pet around.

Hi, I'm very near Colchester!
Will pm vet details too in case it helps. My Colchester vet is lovely, always spends ages with you, and very knowledgeable. He's a bird/reptile specialist but seems great on bunnies too :)

By the way, your two girlies are :love::love:
