  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

poo problems and obsessive digging please advise

hello I have two rescue rabbits, male Binky year and a 3/4 half, female Smudge 1 year, both mini lops and castrated, house rabbits.

Smudge has previously had diarrhea caused by too many veg. However she made a good recovery all be it with shiny wet looking poos. All was well as we reintroduced a smaller amount of veg e.g. 2" carrot or veg morning and night. She eats hay all day and has an egg cupfull of SS per day.

However over the last week she has left watery marks on the paper lining her hutch and also some unformed poos. I have also seen a mucus kind of thread with little circles of mucus on it. She is very happy and active in herself so I am not sure what to do as I feel mean cutting out vegetables again? As a note the vet reported that Binky had pin worms although this is not a problem unless his imune system is low.

Also Smudge has taken up obsessively trying to get under the sofa. We have cleaned the area with vinegar put boxes in the way but she is obsessivley digging and trying to move objects to get to the back of the couch. (We dont want to let her do that as she may get stuck and also there are wires there). Binky just quietyly watches her. Even though we put other toys out to entertain them.

Thank you for any advice.
