Not good news for Maddie

Mad Bunster

Mama Doe
Maddie has had several abscesses on her lower jaw over the last couple of months and so far has had them removed and antibiotic beads placed in. On her last surgery, we took xrays and did a culture too. The xrays showed her lower incisor roots were irregular and this was most probably the source of the infection.

My vets were seeking advice as to what to do next. They know that removing the source of infection would be the best option but were worried about the tooth breaking on removal and we'd be in a worse situation. Today I got a call giving me the options from the specialist...

They believe that even if we do remove Maddies teeth, the likelyhood of "curing" her is very poor as its the bone around the tooth root that is the problem. He mentioned about different antibiotic injections but the culture shows the bug is resistant to most so would be useless (she is on Baytril as C&S shows its suceptible to this).

So I've got to think about what to do - do we put her through the operation to take the teeth out - it might be a worthless effort and will just cause her stress of the op.... or do we just leave her be and keep treating with antibiotics and just assess things as she goes?

What a position to be in..
