Young Bun
Now I know some of you will disagree with Mizu's birthday present but I've done this all before and I'm more than capable of handling the results!

Little lady Mizu turned 2 years old this May 21st and celebrated in style with some fresh veggies, treats and a nice run of the garden. Being the grumpiest of our bunnies she tends to run on her own but when our male Monty arrived she took an unusual liking to him.

Monty was across the garden and their eyes met through the bars, and after a discussion with my partner and a mental preparation in our heads, we decided to let Monty and Mizu fall in love.

It was quite instentaneous (sp), and we are now running around for the bunny mummy-to-be. The happy couple now spend a lot of time together grooming each other and Monty has become rather protective of his new wife!

Congrats to the couple!

Im guessing they are both unneutered? If so it is pointless letting them "fall in love" as once she has given birth they will have to be separated which will be stressfull for both of them. If you want to keep them together I would get them both neutered (tomorrow so that if she is pregnant it can be sorted) and then allow them to live a happy live together.

I would guess that most people on here won't agree - this forum is very pro-rescue and as there are already over 30,000 rabbits in rescue needing homes............... I can't see many people on here 'agreeing' or congatulating you on breeding your rabbits tbh.

What's done is done and it's your decision. But I can't be 'happy' for you because I've already found myself with tears rolling down my face looking through Rabbit Rehome.... I'm not yet in a position to give any rabbits a home but I know when I've got everything set up the hardest part about rehoming a rabbit will be trying to *choose* a pair to bring home out of the hundreds needing one. I can't imagine just how hard that will be.

Oh crikey, more bunnies in need of homes, why cant you neuter them and let them fall in love instead of mindlessly breeding them :?

Mizu is only being bred once, homes have already been secured and I already know too well of the bunny rehoming programme as ALL of my rabbits are re-homers. Monty is already booked to be spayed and Mizu is being spayed once kits are at weaning age so all preparations have been made.

And why did you decide to breed?

If your bunnies are rehomes then you definately should not breed from them. You do not know their health history and could end up producing up to 8 bunnies with a variety of costly health issues.

I do not want to lecture you but you should seriously consider the effect on your bunnies, you and your purse if you end up with 8 babies, some with health problems, a pregnant mum again as you didnt get the male out within minutes of her giving birth, fighting as they all reach maturity and having to accomodate lots of groups of bunnies.

Because I think Mizu would be a great mum, and deserves to be one, even if just once.

As said on another thread bunnies do NOT need to be given the opportunity to be a mum. What they need is love, care, protection from illnesses and spaying to prevent cancer and uncomfortable hormonal problems.

You are NOT acting in the best interest of your bunny by breeding her- trust me.

I know the medical history of the father and the mother, the male doesn't live with the mother they just socialise and as I said before, homes have already been secured. I wouldn't have bred her if I didn't put into consideration every possibly outcome and problem

Then good luck to you- I only hope for your sake as well as the rescue centres that end up sorting out the mess that people create by bonding, that is all works out.

Exactly what i was just about to say, well said!! If every bunny was bred because they 'deserve to be mums' then we'd have even more buns in need. Those homes you already have a rescue bun could have gone too that is already in need of someone to love them. From what you have said you're just breeding her for the sake of not to improve the breed, pointless, no matter what species of animal it is.
