Mommy rabbit keeps biting on one of her baby's backs. What does this mean?
I have a 7 month old rabbit who had babies almost 6 weeks ago. One of the babies has a missing patch of fur near her neck and I've noticed that the mother rabbit keeps grooming that spot and basically making it worse. I know the babies are not sexually mature, as they are only 6 weeks old but before the mother got pregnant, the father had been making a hairless/irritated patch on the mom's back, just like this baby has. I'm concerned that this hurts the baby. What should I do? Why is the mom doing this to only one out of 5 babies? Any advice? Thanks a lot!
Mommy raised all the babies herself and nursed them. They all are healthy-looking and there are no runty ones.
It also seems that some of the littermates are licking that bunny's patch too, as if to help it, but everyone's making it worse.
