Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Excess drinking, limping

I dont know if any of these is connected but one of our regular boarders Molly, has some problems.

she always had a poopy bottom, but i recommended they switched her to SS instead of excell and it helped her loads. shes back now and had bad diahorrea but she wasnt eating her pellets, so we bought her high fibre treats such as dandelion sticks, some alfafla hay etc and her poos are now normal again.

She was limping on her right rear leg, dragging it behind her on her second day here #(she was fine when she was dropped off). Took her to the vet and they said arthritis, had antiflamatorys and pain relief.

shes quite subdued, eating okay but refusing pellets. teeth are fine.

But she is drinking 600mls of water every day. she is 2.6kg.

Any ideas?

Has the excessive drinking started after giving the medication?

Has the medication made any difference re the limping?

Is she spayed?

Sounds like a possible EC case, to be honest... Might not be, but I'd personally want to treat with Panacur as a precaution.

yes shes spayed, no mum noticed the excess drinking on day one, and then on day two she was limping a little, and on day three she was dragging her leg behind her and went to the vets.

the metacam has reduced the dragging of the leg behind her to a very slight limp.

the owner is worried her vet wont be able to help as they are not very good with busn but ive given her the details of P's specialist as theyre very close to them, as they come nearly an hour for us boarding lol!

yeh thats what was my first though. she lost her partner 3 monthd ago, a fox broke into their accomodation and took Maizey, but Molly somehow survived. i suggested to the owner that the stress and loss of maizey could have brought on E.C as it sometimes through stress isnt it:(:?
