Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

how long to rid my house of pasturella?

since poor wee casper was pts with severe fever etc and more jaw abscess growth......we forgot to ask for pm test for pasturella but with the symptoms he had id say guesing it was very likely pasturella.

i havent finished disinfecting etc as its been too upsetting and worrying that the cage etc will have to cleaned in the garden and would that infect the soil etc so ive decided to do that in our shower:oops:
we never changed our clothes after being iwth him we just washed our hands and any part of us he washed or clothing he washed.
but now im worrying still......i cant really find the info on the net..or im doing the search wrong!
he had a jaw abscess after surviving having his teeth out due to a tooth root abscess..no colds or snot or wheezy chest. But when he was dying he couldnt breathe in properly only out..so he was suffocating himself just like my dad when he died..couldnt expel the co2 form his lungs/body.

so how long do i need to ensure bif n bertie will be safe?

I'm sorry I don't have any definate answers I'm afraid.

But if it helps, i have had buns live with pasturella buns and they have never caught it. I have a few abscess/snuffly buns here at the moment and none of the other buns seem to have become ill from them, even though they share the same rooms in the house.

I am guessing that your other bunnies are at a lot lower risk now that Casper has gone to the bridge :( I would have thought they would have contracted it while he was with you if they were going to get it :?

I guess only time will completely put your mind at rest but try not to worry to much, it sounds like you are taking every precaution:)

thank you liz..i feel better now..the internet searches made it so scary.

yes poor wee thing...but i have things still to disinfect/boil wash but theyre upstairs......

thank you hun xxx
