Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Chip eating but not really drinking :(

Madara

New Kit
Hi

My rabbit Chip who has a broken leg and infection and is being treated for that, is eating quite a lot, but drinks hardly anything!
I am worried about that.
His poos are small and drier than normally. And there is less as well.
Vet said as he is geting fresh veg there is no need to force him to drink with syringe but i still want to do that, should i?

get some natural juice, (no concentrated), and forcefeed him. Just do a little bit, say 3 times a day. There is no problem if there is more liquid inside him, and juice is tasty, thus, induce him to drink more

Thanks for the advice, only read it now.
He is so much better now though, has been drinking more and his poos are bigger.
I did force him to drink with syringe and the next morning he peed so much that maybe i shouldnt have
I also read in one of discussions here i think about that pineapple can help boost digestion and gave him a bit, so maybe that helped.
If he stops drinking again will try the juice and tea, thanks :)

Could you put the fresh vegetables in water before giving them to be eaten. This will increase his fluid intake.

I would use 'force feeding' as a last resort as I would hate to increase the stress levels your bun has which could increase the chance of stasis particuarly with the leg injury.
