  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hello every one.last month bob was admitted after having repeated tummy problems which resulted in some major stasis.fortunately he has made a good recovery(fingers crossed it stays that way)however our vet(i will not mention the name at this time, purely because her findings aren't complete and i don't want tread on any ones toes...however i will say this vet is possibly the best qualified vet in rabbit health in britain...;))thinks that they may have detected an unrecognised abnormality within a rabbits guts that could be responsible for rabbits with repeated bouts of stasis.a kink has been found in the guts of two rabbits with this problem which has required surgery to remove the affected part of the gut.the vets findings are still in the early stages but they expect to find more cases of this.i found this very interesting and thought others would too.if bob suffers again he may go on to need this surgery himself.

hiya jane, unfortunately at this stage i don't know anymore.i know you probably can guess who made this find, and how well respected this person is so it will be interesting to see what happens next.the first operation was only carried out 3 weeks ago and the bunny was due back in at some point this week for a check up.bob is a marten seal rex and im hoping he will not have a reoccurance of the stasis but if it does happen again it will possibly have to be investigated.

Do keep me posted as I have suspected that there is a GI tract problem specific to Rexes.

I hope Bob continues to stay well now.
