bunnys on planes?

sam and nala

Alpha Buck
if you where to take your bun to another country do they need to be quarentined and have passports like a dog or a horse ?

do they go on the same plane as you?

who do you contact to take bun away ?

do they need to be sedated?

just asking out of curiosity and cos im bored and yeah thats about it

I'd assume they'd be on the same plan as the owner. And I don't think airplanes take any sedated animals not even dogs and cats, sure I saw it on telly once.

It looks as though they are free to travel anywhere in the EU with no passport/quarantine. If you're bringing a rabbit in to the UK from outside the EU, then they need to be quarantined for 6 mths - other countries will all have their own rules.

I don't think they need to be sedated, but it would be extremely stressful - one bunny in the news recently died shortly after a flight to Italy. :( I would imagine rabbits would be carried in the cargo hold.

As far as I know bunnies don't need passports, just a health certificate. There are pet travel specialist that you can use or you can fly them yourself. Most airlines make you check them into cargo for international flights but some airlines will le you take them on as "carry-on" but there are size resrictions as they must fit under the seat in front of you and still be able to stand up and turn around comfortably. Now, if only they had more airline seats that were that accomodating to humans......

Really? which ones? Just out of curiousity

I work for an airline and the only animals we allow in the cabin are assistance dogs

ETA: Have just spoken to my OH who works for a private jet type company, he says he's had non assistance type dogs in his cabin but rabbits generally can't afford the air fare :D

So rabbits aren't allowed in the cabin at all? :? How come?

I'm not sure of the reasons why, it seems to be a general/standardised ruling. I'm inclined to say because people are stupid and would let the rabbit/animal loose in the cabin, which for one wouldn't be safe for the animal and two, I guess the potential is there for it to chew through wiring (although one would hope that there wouldn't be any exposed)

I can't comment on other commerical carriers but it seems to be up to the individual airline.

From the Air Transport Users Council Website (whoever they are)

Pets in the Aircraft Cabin

Some passengers want to be able to take their pets with them in the aircraft cabin. Other passengers do not want to sit anywhere near other passengers' pets. It is entirely up to individual airlines whether they permit pets to travel in the cabin with their owners or whether they insist that pets travel in the hold.
