  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I adopted a rabbit on Sat and he was eating well and settling in. On sunday hes bottom and legs were covered in runny poo's and solid poo's. I had to put him in a little bath to clean him up and this actually went well and he appeared to enjoy being wrapped in a towel and cuddled. I cleaned out hutch and observed him. I took away lettuce leaf and pellets and just left him with hay to eat. So far he hasnt been a poo and as far as i can see nor a wee. It doesnt look as tho he has drank either. He is hopping around and doesnt appear to be ill. Is this just stress due to new home and would a visit to vets stress him even more. Im soo worried.

Well if he had diarrhoea his guts are likely to be quite empty. As he is eating hay hopefully in a few hours some normal poos will appear.

Im pleased to announce that the threat of the vets made Widget go to the loo. He is eating and drinking and bouncing around, phew!! will keep eye on him tho. Thanks for all your advice and help:D

I would stop feeding him lettuce...

Yes i will def not be giving him lettuce. I really didnt know it could harm rabbits. Benjy is fine with it, but he wont be getting anymore. Me thinks id better read up on rabbits diets:roll:

Yes i feel so relieved, i really tht he might have stasis
